Commission Fines Builders More than $27,000
Revokes Corpus Christi Builder’s Registration |
(Austin) — At its regular business meeting yesterday, the Texas Residential Construction Commission levied penalties against 20 builders/remodelers. Fines levied against builders/remodelers for violations averaged $1,373.
Through an agreed order the commission revoked the builder registration of Corpus Christi builder Bayport Development. The company will complete 10 hours of continuing education and notify all its clients in writing that Bayport GCE/L.P. will fulfill the warranty obligations for both companies. Additionally, Bayport Development and Bayport GCE/L.P. must pay $3,250 each in administrative penalties. Bayport/GCE L.P. must complete ten hours of continued education during the next year and will be on probation for seven years. While on probation, the registration can be immediately revoked by the commission’s executive director for any rule violations.
The commission fined other builders for various rule violations in the following areas: Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Central Texas/San Antonio, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Longview, Odessa, Tyler and Texarkana. (View complete list).
Certain orders the commission entered at its April meeting are now final. The builder and agent registrations of Alberti Horizon, Inc. and Diaz Construction, Inc. were revoked. Each company was fined $2,500. Ryan Homes, L.L.C. and agent John Cavazos jointly and severally were fined $3,500.
Commission Executive Director Duane Waddill reiterated the commission’s commitment to enforcing its rules and statutes.
“The commission is dedicated to working for quality construction for Texans. The commission aggressively pursues builders and remodelers not abiding by the rules or obeying the law,” Waddill said. “The commission reminds Texans that builder/remodeler complaint information is a public record. We encourage consumers to use the public information available, and builders to use our resources for resolving consumer issues. The commission is here to help.”
The commission’s Web site, www.texasrcc.org, provides Texas consumers useful information as to whether a builder or remodeler is registered, if the commission has confirmed defects in any homes built by that builder/remodeler and if the commission has fined or otherwise sanctioned that builder/remodeler.
